Various Top 5’s

February Top 3

1. Shows: Daniel Johnston
There are very few artists that really fuel my creativity. Daniel Johnston is the reason I started playing music again. I feel a real kinship with him. After seeing the documentary I decided I really would like to see him in the next few years. It was well worth the drive to Omaha. I had 2 really great friends along for the ride. Ryan Johnson and I have taken countless road trips together and quite a few of those have been to Omaha. Our friend Dan Talmadge joined us on the trip. It is always really nice to get out of KC even if it is for only 12 hours. Daniel was really amazing. After waiting thru really crappy bands. Daniel was finally up. He played 3 different little sets. First he came out by himself. He played a few songs on guitar and sang. It was really awesome but he could barely play. He was shaking really badly. After a few songs another guy came out and played acoustic guitar with him. He still was struggling with it quite a bit. The last portion was my favorite. He had a full band that came out after that. He would clench his fist really hard as he sang. Just really giving it his all. After it was all over He couldn’t come out for an encore so everybody there sang Devil Town to him. All and all a great night.

2. Albums: State Bird- Mostly Ghostly
I don’t like to blog about music till its available. And this record is most certainty available now. I always feel like its cheating to blog about my own stuff. But I invest so much time in it I feel bad not to. This record is really great. We have been doing a lot for this band and it is really starting to pay off.

3. Albums: Nada Surf- Lucky
This band of course is the same as the 90’s one hit wonder. As most people know by now they have put out a lot of really solid records since then. This is just another in the series of really great records. Don’t write them off they are way more Popular then that one song would have let on.
